All Creatures Great and Small

COVID-19 and Pesticides

We currently have over 190,000 deaths in the US from coronavirus and some experts say it will be over 400,000 deaths by January, which is only a little over three months away.  We have to be very careful to prevent us from getting the disease.  We need to always wear masks and socially distance ourselves and never go to mass gatherings.  We also need to never expose ourselves to pesticides during this pandemic.  The pesticides can compromise our immune systems and make use more vulnerable to health issues, including coronavirus.  We currently use too many pesticides. Pesticides are poorly regulated in many areas including New Mexico.

Wearing masks, socially distancing, and avoiding large gatherings isn’t hard to do.  Neither is controlling most household pests without using pesticides.  Why use liquid pesticides to control roaches when there are good baits available and beer and duct tape work.  Why use pesticides to control ants when baits are very effective in most cases.  You can control earwigs outside with newspapers, silverfish with baby food jars and flour, paper wasps with brown paper bags, bed bugs with alcohol, water, dish soap and a hair dryer, head lice with salt water and a hair dryer, fungus gnats with aquarium gravel, fruit flies with vinegar, carpet beetles with dirty socks and cheese, and there are other non-toxic methods of controlling other pests.

There is no reason to be exposed to toxic pesticides, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic.  I will help you manage any pests safely and effectively.  You can join my Earth Friendly Bug Club if you want. When you join, I will address any pest issues you have now and in the future via phone or email. I will send you relevant handbooks via email.  I will identify any pests you have if necessary.  If you want to join the club, the cost is $30 for a lifetime membership. Contact me at if you are interested in joining the Earth Friendly Bug Club.  There is no reason to spray toxic pesticides inside or outside your home.

I was IPM Specialist for the University of New Mexico for 12 years and never used any toxic pesticides or rodenticides and the students, faculty and staff loved it. I was also IPM Manager for the City of Santa Fe and personally took care of over 80 city buildings and never used a drop of liquid pesticides and we never used Roundup on city property.  I have over 45 years of experience in the pesticide industry and know the hazards of toxic pesticides.  Pesticides are weapons of mass destruction.

About askthebugman

I have been in the pest management industry for over 40 years. In that time I have used almost every pesticide available to control so-called “pests”. With this experience, I have learned over the years that the pesticides we use are far more dangerous than the pests we are trying to control. As a result, it has become a passion for me to improve the quality of life for humans and the planet, by assisting people to not only become more educated and aware of their environment – but also by learning to manage their home and business with a sustainable and healthier approach to tending to unwanted infestations of bugs. Please enjoy my blog posts, check out my publications, utilize my services, or simply stay in touch if you have a bug question…
