All Creatures Great and Small

New Book available

I finished putting a book together.  It is a compilation of several handbooks I wrote.  I updated some of the information and added some more.  The title is –

“Safe and Effective Pest Management is VITAL

for the Welfare of Our Children and for the Environment.

It is over 100 pages in length and is available in PDF format only at this time. I will be contacting Amazon about making it available in Kindle format.

It has information on non-toxic pest control in homes, gardens, lawns, and commercial buildings as well as information on termite control, weed control and thee environment. It also has information on the Invisible Biting Bug Syndrome (IBBS) and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS))

If anyone wants a copy, the cost is $10.  I know money is tight, so if you want a copy and that is too much, you can contribute any amount you want.  Below is the Forward to the book written by Jen Awdry, a clinical herbalist and natural health practitioner. If you want a copy of the book, email me at

What you are reading in this book is more valuable than gold.  The words in this book will serve to inform you, guide you, protect you, empower you, and probably make you laugh. More than the enriching read it offers as you pour over the vast experience so generously shared throughout these pages, Richard “Bugman” Fagerlund gives all at once a deeper understanding of nature and how we can interact with it in more beneficial ways.

As science teaches us the importance of biodiversity and how truly interconnected everything is, we must be conscious stewards of our environment and not just aware but also responsible for our own impact.  Future generations depend on it. Yes, pests can be intrusive and managing them effectively cannot be understated lest we find ourselves dealing with problems bigger than we may care or be able to deal with.  Yet caution in doing so is warranted as well, as many of the widely used and available solutions only exponentiate other problems.

Richard’s expertise and depth of insight into entomology, along with his straight-forward honesty, provides a thorough look into what must be known about the pest control industry.  Further, he empowers each reader with a trove of simple, effective, and driven-by-success solutions that are healthier and usually more accessible (certainly more affordable) than calling in a pesticide company.

For the gardener, home-dweller, school-goer, and job-worker alike, using the tips shared here will help identify and truly manage pests to help bring more peace to your surroundings and in cases where it is needed, the protection that is appropriate.  What is helpful to know, and what Richard readily shares with us, is what is a nuisance versus what is truly dangerous. Most of what we encounter is not actually dangerous but rather misunderstood.  Knowing the difference can give immediate stress relief to those who need it.  Rest assured, no matter the level of threat posed by the applicable pest, Richard will have a recommendation for dealing with it.

There are many situations where his advice has been extremely helpful to me in resolving my own pest problems, some of which were situations where I had tried other recommended methods from other sources that did not work.  The detail he provides in pest identification made the difference at least a time or two, or few.  By referencing his work, I am more knowledgeable and therefore more successful in securing my own home, supporting my health, supporting the environment, and doing my own work.

I am continually thankful for Richard and his dedication to support the well-being of life in all its forms.  I regularly recommend him as a trusted resource to my colleagues, friends, family, and greater community.  Enjoy the gift of wisdom that he gives!  May it serve you, and that which is around you.

About askthebugman

I have been in the pest management industry for over 40 years. In that time I have used almost every pesticide available to control so-called “pests”. With this experience, I have learned over the years that the pesticides we use are far more dangerous than the pests we are trying to control. As a result, it has become a passion for me to improve the quality of life for humans and the planet, by assisting people to not only become more educated and aware of their environment – but also by learning to manage their home and business with a sustainable and healthier approach to tending to unwanted infestations of bugs. Please enjoy my blog posts, check out my publications, utilize my services, or simply stay in touch if you have a bug question…
